Study Proves Natural Oils Improve Hair Loss Condition

In this double blind controlled study, Randomized Trial of Aromatherapy: Successful Treatment for Alopecia Areata | Complementary and Alternative Medicine | JAMA Dermatology, published by JAMA Dermatology, a peer-reviewed medical journal produced by the American Medical Association, Medical professionals have proven:

Cedarwood, lavender, thyme, and rosemary oils have hair growth–promoting properties.

The Hair Loss Study:

Over the course of 7 months a controlled study took place.  This study was to investigate the benefit of Natural Oils in the treatment of a hair loss condition called alopecia.  Alopecia is a common auto-immune disorder which results in bald patches developing unpredictably.

These bald patches can start out small.  So they can remain unnoticed for quite some time.  However they can grow in size and connect becoming larger and noticeable rapidly.  Almost as if they appeared overnight.

Alopecia can affect any part of the body.  Your head, your face, your leg and your arm to name a few.  The condition develops when the immune system attacks the hair’s root.  This is what causes the hair to die.  Although the main cause of Alopecia is unknown.  Many believe it could be related to a poor diet, vitamin deficiency and/or be stress induced.

Many people who have Alopecia, are startled when they look into the mirror and all of a sudden a very noticeable patch of hair is completely missing.  This can cause the sufferer to have a heightened risk of a low self esteem, depression and anxiety.

Hair Loss Study Methods:

In this study, eighty-six patients – all suffering from Alopecia, were randomly placed into two groups.  The active group and the control group.  The active group massaged a mixture of essential oils and a carrier oil into their scalp daily.  The control group massaged just the carrier oils into their scalps daily.

Two independent dermatologists were tasked with sequentially photographing each participant’s scalp to collect the data to be measured.  The degree of improvement was measured in two separate methods.  Overall the results were outstanding.

Hair Loss Study Results:

Forty-four percent of the active group showed significant  improvement compared to just six percent of the control group.  Nineteen patients had massive hair regrowth.  The results of this American Medical study, sponsored by The Soroptimists International of Aberdeen, has given new hope to those suffering from this hair loss condition.
